The Status of Helminthic Infetions and Their Physical Development in Korean Chidren

Abstract
This study was under-taken to evaluate the present status of intestinal helminthic infections in preschool and school children and chick out their Physical growth development and nutritional status. The results of this study were as follows.
1. The prevalence rate of intestinal helminthes.
1) The positive rate of intestinal helminthes of any kind was 58.8% among 983 children. In rural children it was 75.0% and 46.4% in urban children.
2) The positive rate of intestinal helminthes in female children was always greater than that of male.
3) The highest positive rate of helminthic infection was 79.1% in 7 year old group.
2. The mean values of measured heights, weight, girth of chests, girth of head and girth of arm in 5-year old children were compared with the results of other authors.
2) In this study, the mean values of physical measurement for 5-year old female was always greater than that of male.
3. Correlation of physical status and intensity of Ascaris infection.
1) Among 55 examinations, 19 cases belonged to the range of Ascaris E.P.G. count 100-999, 23 children belonged to the category of E.P.G. count 1,000-9,999 and 10 children belonged to the category of E.P.G. 10,000-29,999. Only 3 children showed the heavy infection of E.P.G. count 30,000 or more.
2) Kaup-Davenport Index of non-infected children was compared with those of ascaris infected groups which had E.P.G. count of 1-2,999 and of more than 30,000.
3) All Of the Ascaris infected children were in the category of moderately developed(Kaup-Davenport Index18.5-12.9), but 6.4% of non-infected cases were in the category of well developed and 93.6% of that were in the range of moderate development.
